Story behind
There is a short story behind it. In the Great
Battle of Mahabharata in Kurukshetra, there was an 18-day war between Pandavas
and Kauravas, in that war, Pandavas and their army killed thousands of people
including their 100 cousin brothers. The Pandavas won that war but they
felt guilty, for killing their cousin for the kingdom.
So, for peace and forgiveness, they lived
everything and headed towards the heavenly abode of the gods in the Himalayas,
for they came to Kedarnath region to seek forgiveness from Lord Shiva, who
lives in the Mountains, But God Shiva was not ready to forgive them for killing a lot
of people including their cousin, So he took the form of Bull to avoid them to
see or recognize. But the Pandavas soon realized that the bull was Lord Shiva
and they went for forgiveness Lord Shiva tried to run away from that place
but Pandavas caught its tail.
Suddenly the head and another part of the body
got separated, and the head flew away, which Pandavas could not locate, But the
remaining part of the body was left there as the Structure of Kedarnath, Pandavas
built Kedarnath temple and that remaining part, Today that is known as
Kedarnath Dham and worshiped as the torso of the holy bull.
